Al Davis asks Kiffin to resign? That’s only shocking if you’ve been drinking the Raiders kool-aid
Quick note: ESPN ace Chris Mortensen is just reporting that Al Davis has asked Lane Kiffin to resign and that Kiffin told Mortensen he declined to do so.
Sounds like the info is coming directly from Kiffin. Hard to deny that one, Raiders fans. Well, I know some of them will try.
Hmm. Guess everything is wonderful with the Raiders after all.
I don’t know where negative nabobs like me, Carl Steward and various others would ever come up with thoughts that Kiffin and Al and Rob Ryan was a tempestuous situation!

Wait, I just thought about this for two minutes and I have some additional thoughts:
-How classic that, if true, Al isn’t firing Kiffin. He’s asking Kiffin to quit.
Why such an odd method? Because Al doesn’t want to pay Kiffin, duh! If Kiffin quits, he doesn’t get the rest of his guaranteed pay out, whether it’s for one more year or two or whatever.
But if Kiffin gets fired, he’s due all of that money. Al doesn’t want Kiffin to have that money. So… please quit Lance!
-So Al doesn’t want Kiffin, probably in a major way related to the Ryan tension.
Al likes Ryan better. I believe I might have suggested that in the past.
-But Al doesn’t want to pay off Kiffin. So Al, for now, is willing to let KIFFIN make the call on whether he stays or goes because it’s more important to Al to keep Kiffin’s money (if possible) than it is to pay off the $2M-$4M left on Kiffin’s contract.

Al’s crazy. Kiffin managed to get a mediocre team on board with his plans for change, showing enough vision and smarts to help give Raiders fans hope during another painful rebuilding phase.
And Al wants to fire him? Man, I wish his ownership of the team had ended 25 years ago.
Perhaps it’s true, perhaps It’s not. I don’t know.
But the fact that you are obviously getting so much enjoyment out of rubbing in the face of Raiders fans (such as myself)shows a serious lack of professionalism.
The Raiders have problems no doubt, but I find your enjoyment of it distasteful. Just report the news, thanks.

Typical Al, Schefter was right the last time he had some scoop and Al denied that as well. As a Raider fan I’m tired of all the shell games and am calling for Al to go away and start pushing up daisies. I will not spend another dime supporting them and lining Al’s pockets. I’m not renewing my seats this year and as fans we need to all stand up and just not support Al’s pocketbook. He’s still thinking of the glory days. Wake up Al.

Good call, Tim. I’ve been a Raiders fan since the Lamonica days, but that doesn’t blind me to the fact that they’ve been a joke for years.
As long as Davis calls the shots, the Raiders will always be caught up in some kind of cheap coaching carousel/soap opera.
Cmon Raider fans, do you really think Al is going to go away or change the way he operates? I am willing to bet that Al has maintained this “style” of coaching and ownership since the Frank Youell Field days in Oakland. (I was there too). Having said that, I agree with Ryan although I am not wishing for Al to push up any flowers too soon. The team has been my team since I was a kid and the Glory days are long gone. The return to Glory will not reappear as long as Al’s administration continues to rule the roost. I can’t in good conscience renew my great seats either.
Someday, Al Davis will die. Then, once again, I will be able to watch the Raiders without getting sick to my stomach.

I understand that some of responses from Raider fans want to make you thumb you nose and say I told you so and maybe even kick some dirt in their general direction. However, the I told you so attitude rubs me the wrong way. Yes, the Raiders are dysfunctional in way that makes Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears look like Mother Theresa. But that’s evident enough without your smug reminders. I respectfully submit that you would be better served by addressing the merits of Raider’s management rather than stooping to the level of some Raiders fans who make ignorant, or even racial comments.

The Raiders have the WORSE record in football over the last 5 seasons and the lemmings still worship Slick Al.
All the other teams are just hoping that Al stays in
charge of the Raiders, he’s doing such a great job and
it’s an easy win or two every season.
Sports is entertainment, just like Soap Operas. The Raiders are never boring (except perhaps on Sundays). I have been a Raider fan for more years than I care to admit. It is painful, but it is entertaining. Al wants to call all the shots. Kiffin improved the team, like Gruden did. The issue is that the Kiffin and Gruden did it differently than what Al wanted. The only way a coach will survive in Oakland? Win the way Al wants… which can not happen. So, Raider fans, we are left with soap operas and losing seasons.
I’ve been a Raider fan for over 30 years but over these recent years I’ve seen Mr. Davis lose sight of the prize. There is no doubt that Mr. Davis is stewing about Randy Moss and the continued success of the Patriots. In his mind if we had Moss we would be saying Just Win Baby while accepting the trophy at the Super Bowl. It now borders on insanity caused by Mr. Davis and Mr. Davis alone.
